What is a digital SIM card?
Kosmos uses digital SIM cards only. A digital SIM card is an eSIM built into the phone and replaces plastic cards. The service is activated directly on the device and simplifies number porting for customers.
Get the app
The easiest way — and the one we recommend — is to download and use the Kosmos app. You can find it in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. If you use the app to manage your services, activating your card is very easy.
How do you activate a digital SIM card?
You will receive both an in-app notification and an email about your new digital SIM card.
- In the app, go to the "My Kosmos" section and choose activate SIM card. By tapping that button, you activate the service in a simple way.
- If you cannot activate the digital SIM card through the Kosmos app, you can always activate it manually with a QR code. When you buy a subscription, Kosmos sends you a QR code by email that is linked to your phone number. By scanning the code, you can activate the service directly on your phone.See detailed instructions
- If you need a new digital SIM card or the QR code again, contact us at kosmos@kosmos.is and request that the digital SIM card be reissued.
Before activation starts, make sure of the following
eSIM support
Confirm that your device supports digital SIM cards (eSIM).
Have the Auðkenni app
The eSIM supports electronic ID only. Electronic ID with SMS verification is not supported.
Connect to WiFi
Make sure you have a stable internet connection while setup is in progress.
Have the QR code ready
It is a good idea to have it open and accessible before you start.
Keep the phone unlocked
The phone must not be locked to another telecom provider.
Enough battery
Make sure the battery is sufficiently charged.
Activate a digital SIM card with a QR code
Open Settings
Start by opening
Settingson your phone.
Go to
Mobile serviceand there selectAdd eSIM
Choose QR code
Select the
Use QR Codeoption. Scan the QR code you received by email or on the Kosmos website.
Follow the instructions
Wait while the eSIM card downloads. When the card has been found, tapContinueto continue the process.
Name the card
To stay organized, it is best to name the new card "Kosmos".
Choose Kosmos for data
Choose the Kosmos line for calls, SMS and most importantly:Cellular Data(mobile data).
Test the connection
Temporarily turn off wireless network (WiFi).
Check whether the phone is not connecting securely to the mobile network.
Open a website or app to test the connection.
Turn WiFi back on if you want.
Activate a digital SIM card without a QR code
Enter the activation details that Kosmos shows in the app, on the website or sends you by email. You can always enter digital SIM card information manually instead of scanning a QR code.
Choose Enter Details Manually
At the bottom of the screen where you scan the QR code, choose to enter details manually (Enter Details Manually).
Activation details
Enter: SM-DP+ AddressandActivation Code Choose Next and follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.
